The New Jersey band Thursday was slated to play its biggest gig of its career, opening up for My Chemical Romance at MetLife Stadium on August 9. The previous night found them headlining a sold-out show at Albany’s Lark Hall. Brooklynites, I Am the Avalanche and Blood Vulture, provided support for the show.

The Albany faithful roared, but they weren’t alone. Fans had clearly made the trek from Thursday’s home turf in New Jersey, turning the room into a roaring mix of locals and diehards. The love was mutual, visible in Geoff Rickly’s grin between screams and in the way the band leaned into each breakdown.

But when Thursday broke into “Cross Out the Eyes,” I caught a glimpse of the joy on (August) Rosa’s face. And suddenly, he beelined through the crowd to join in the pit that was forming in the center. My eyes remained on him as he screamed along to every word amidst a slew of fans who likely had no idea he was the one responsible for the entire night.
