SPAC Poet-Singer Concert Canceled Due to Illness

The Post-Star, August 8, 1970

The Monday concert of Canadian poet-singer Leonard Cohen at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center has been cancelled due to illness, SPAC general manager E. Craig Hankenson announced yesterday.

Mr. Hankenson said Mr. Cohen’s management had sent word that the singer was currently hospitalized in Europe and would be unable to fulfill his next three weeks of scheduled engagements.

The hospitalization was necessitated, according to the management’s statement, after Mr. Cohen became severely chilled in the course of a performance at a music festival in Aix-en-Provence, France.

The Montreal-born artist, most noted for his songs “Suzanne” and “Hey That’s No Way to Say Goodbye,” was to have been backed by The Army at Saratoga. Those holding tickets to the concert may exchange them or obtain a refund at the SPAC main box office on Rte. 50.
