Saxman and composer Joshua Redman played a set focused on his more recent releases, including the new “Words Fall Short,” in his appearance at Universal Preservation Hall in Saratoga Springs. Paul Cornish on piano, Nazir Ebo on drums, and Philip Norris on bass round out his current quartet.

The interplay between the members of the band was key to this performance. Redman frequently sat in the background to observe and where he felt an insertion of his tenor or soprano was needed, he quickly stepped in and moved around the stage. The Hall was as much an instrument as the band.
