Sherman At SPAC: Idol Wanes
The Troy Record, June 12, 1972
Bobby Sherman, waning idol of the younger teen-age set, performed Saturday in another chilly concert which indicated his fans are diminishing in number if not in enthusiasm.
All of the screaming elements of last year’s show—the gifts, the signs and frantic little girls trying to reach the stage to touch his hand—were there, but in lesser measure.
Only about 2,000 teenie-boppers were on hand for a concert that would be foolish to describe in musical terms. Sherman was onstage for one reason only, to keep the kids screaming and happy and he made no secret of that.
Sherman was sporting a mustache for a Mod Squad TY show just taped and while his career as a teenage idol is most certainly coming to a close, we couldn’t really feel sorry for him on Saturday evening. At times, he seemed a little tired of the whole thing and was content to just go through the motions.
