Today’s Music

Mechanical problems in this paper’s computer Thursday zapped my review of rock band Chicago at SPAC Wednesday. For the record, it was a highly energized rock show, obviously highlighted by some sizzling new material. It was the band’s first show of its 1979 tour, and as such had somewhat ragged sound.
The number that stands out most was “Aloha, Mama.” This new piece mixed a Dixieland opening with blazing Southern-style rock and a Hawaiian visual theme. Attendance: 7,234, hampered by rain and rumors of rain.
