Isaac & The 5th

Two of the largest entertaining groups in the world of pop music peopled the Saratoga Performing Arts Center the past two nights, both doing their own thing to light the stage on fire with their own personal style.
On Sunday it was Isaac Hayes, the man who brought you that incredible soundtrack from “Shaft,” and last night it was The Fifth Dimension, the refreshing group that has somehow managed to remain intact for ten years.
Despite the cold temperatures in Saratoga Sunday, Hayes proceeded to strip to the waist and still managed to sweat, putting his all into his brand of intense soul. The audience was surprisingly small (an estimated 4,000), but they loved him.
THE FIFTH DIMENSION have appeared at SPAC for the last six years, and after last night, they’ll most likely be back for a seventh.
They did audience requests of their hits, some new lyrical numbers incorporating their unique brand of harmony (including a new rendition of “Let The Sunshine In” from “Hair”) and a bouncy number to which they themselves did the limbo and then invited audience members up to do the same.
Their choreography is as together as it always was, but somehow this year the act seemed more spontaneous and less pre-programmed.
