Kristofferson SPAC Show Seen Sloppy

Singer-songwriter-actor Kris Kristofferson treated over 3,000 frigid fans to the sloppiest concert of the season Sunday evening at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center.
Kristofferson, backed by five country musicians, forgot lyrics, ended some songs in the middle and ended others raggedly — in that order and often — but it didn’t seem to matter.
“You guys are easy to please,” he remarked after the crowd cheered a botched and shortened version of “Sunday Morning Coming Down.” Perhaps Mr. K has been spending too much time on movie sets. He starred as Billy the Kid in the film “Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid,” which was playing in the area a few months ago.
At any rate, he had to fish around for keys at the beginning of some of his songs. Before “Billy Dee” he said to one of the band members “Who starts it out? You do, right?”
He was having problems with old songs as well as new, which made us wonder how much concertizing he has been doing of late.
If anyone could get away with this type of performance it’s Kristofferson. He’s a loose sort of guy who gives the impression he does what he wants, when he wants — on his terms.
His growly voice can be pleasing to listen to, even in the super informal atmosphere he seems to like to work in.
Helping him make it through the night on the second half was his better half, Rita Coolidge. They were recently wed and she apparently hasn’t had time to forget any words.
